Week 21 of 52: Tombstone

For week 21 of 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks the theme was “Tombstone.” Last week I visited Acacia Park Cemetery to visit my ancestors and family and see the stone that was added for my grandfather, Ed Sheliga.

I took some pictures to submit to the Niagara County Genealogical Society (NCGS) for their Parade of Heros that they are going to feature over Memorial Weekend.

Here is what I submitted to NCGS about my grandpa Ed’s service in WWII:

My grandfather, Ed Sheliga, is buried in Acacia Park Cemetery in North Tonawanda, NY.  He enlisted in the Army during World War II and participated in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign.  He served from November 1940 to November 1945 where his speciality was being a Weather Forecaster.  He told me that he studied the weather to help guide the trajectory of missiles, etc. to land where they were supposed to.  Included are scans of his Honorable Discharge and Report of Separation.  I loved him very much and miss him.
