I had the pleasure of finally sitting down and watching some of the recordings from the FGS 2020 Conference. One of the first ones that I watched was Show Me the CarFax: The Purposes of Genealogical Documentation by Elissa Scalise Powell. I enjoyed the presentation.
One of the biggest take-aways that I will remember from this presentation is how Elissa talked about how citations are shortened for publications like the NGSQ. They do so to help save space but when the articles are originally submitted, they are done so with the full citations (like shown in Evidence Explained). It is only after the editor vets and fact-checks everything that the citation is shortened for publication. This is important for me to remember when I go to NGSQ articles for examples of building citations.
As I am creating my educational plan for my next ProGen report, this presentation will help me in both of my overall goals to become a professional genealogist and also certified someday.
